This mask belonged to the Songye people of DR of Congo. The Songye masks are categorized as male & female. They are mainly represent power and strength of their tribes. The male mask normally has white crest while the female mask are also white but the crest are always smaller in size with finer stripes. The stripes are reminiscent of the antelope. The distinctive feature of this mask is the mouth of which, represents the bird’s beak.
