Highly regarded, an important species to the Dayak people, even considered as their cultural symbol. Known as the Bird Commanders, the hornbills are protecting them from any evil spirits that might harm their people. On top of that, the Dayaks also believe that the Bird Commanders has the ability to deliver messages to the their ancestors. Meanwhile, some provinces and states in the island of Borneo has adopted this bird as their mascot and Sarawak for instance has declared Rhinoceros Hornbill as their National Bird.
