This wonderful work of plaited arts carrier or basket is weaved and carved by the Dayak Bahau people of Borneo. One of the sub-ethnic group of Dayak Orang Ulu, living around West Kutai Regency, East of Kalimantan.
A narrow conical basket, combination of tight orthogonal and loose diagonal plait work. Serves to carry bulky loads, this tall basket is made of sheets of rattan. A layer of tree bark is sewn as the backing and also shoulder straps.
Visible signs of wear and tear but still in pretty good condition in reflects to it’s age. Would make a nice addition to your collection as well as fits in nicely as part of home décor.
