This amazing full head mask was made from hardwood, paint and assorted decorations like brass sheeting, beads and colourful cotton tassels by the Bambara people, an ethnic group native to much of West Africa, primarily southern Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Senegal. Their elongated faces are often more or less completely covered with metal. Their masks were used during rituals of initiation, and in the occasion of other events like weddings, births, circumcisions, deceases, funerals, purifications of objects and beings.
Good condition with visible signs of wear and tear.
